The November 3, 2026, election has the following races on the ballot:
Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, State Insurance Commissioner, State House, US Senator, Congressional Representative, Constitutional Amendment. Please VOTE NO and Blue down the ballot!
The measure would amend Section 1 of Article 5 of the Kansas Constitution to specify that in order to vote in Kansas, individuals must be citizens, at least 18 years old, and a resident of the area in which the person is seeking to vote in. However, the Kansas Constitution already states that eligible voters must be 18 years old, a citizen and resident of the area in which they will be voting. This repetitive (already in the state constitution) and unnecessary (only citizens can currently vote) proposed amendment could be used to restrict voting by requiring proof of citizenship to vote.
● The language is vague—it does not state how a person will need to prove their citizenship (passport, original birth certificate, Real ID, all of the above?) or how often an individual will have to prove their citizenship (every election?). Republican lawmakers will interpret this vague language to pass laws making it harder to vote.
● The amendment would disenfranchise many from voting—those who may not have or cannot afford the required documentation.
● The amendment would disenfranchise many women who changed their name when they married by requiring marriage and/or divorce documentation to validate the name change.
The Douglas County Democratic Party asks you to vote “NO” on this proposed constitutional amendment. The Kansas Constitution adequately specifies voter requirements that protects fair elections. We must not create confusion and mistrust in our voting system that advances needless voting restrictions. VOTE NO.
